First off, I’d highly recommend you to create a revision time table, these are very useful to keep everything organized.

Organise your revision notes

  • Put every subject in a different folder. Print out your past paper, this much better as it will feel more like a real exam.

Keep doing past papers!

  • You should again be doing these under timed conditions. It can also give you a clearer idea of what the exam might look like.

Look at the exam specification and mark scheme

  • This will show you exactly what the exam board is looking for, and how to precisely answer questions to gain those marks. This will ensure you aren’t writing too much or too little. Keep in mind that technique is just as important as content.

Timing is everything

  • Do past papers to get an estimate of how long you should spend on each question, timing causes a lot of students to lose many marks.

Learn key words in questions

  • Such as “Discuss”, “Describe”, “Evaluate” etc.. Keep a note of these words, and learn how to answer each of them.

Write a plan

  • Planning your essays is so useful, this is for yourself and should take no longer than 3 mins. This will allow you to write with a clear idea in your mind.

Practice on paper

  • Due to COVID we’ve been typing a lot, but the exams will be on paper, so keep practising on them. It makes a big difference!!

Don’t panic!

  • Panicking will only cause you to make unnecessary mistakes, and mocks are there for you to learn from. Use them as useful practice to focus on your weaknesses, and improve on them.

Lastly, don’t forget to speak to your teachers and parents, they know you well and could help you reach a final decision. We hope this article has helped you! Good luck.
