On 31st December, 2019, the world welcomed the year 2020 with thrill and exuberance, unaware of the exceptional baggage it brought along. Australian bushfires, Black Lives Matter protests, the untimely death of the all-time NBA star, Kobe Bryant; not to mention, the global pandemic that compelled every child and adult to remember their masks, rather than their car keys! Nevertheless, while 2020 had calamitous consequences, it allowed us to give attention to our personal self care, growth and development. As we near the end of this bizarre year, we should welcome the 365 page book we are about to begin writing, titled 2021, with the same thrill and exuberance.
As tradition, it is crucial to set our New Year resolutions. From skin care to self care, dream big yet realistic. Set attainable goals; this keeps up your self-confidence and belief in yourself. Self belief. Another major component of your New Year resolutions. Having faith in yourself is as important as every single breath. The path of determination, resilience and perseverance is loaded with speed bumps of doubt and low-esteem. However, that’s all they are; hurdles on the road. Hurdles that you can overcome, hurdles that are temporary, hurdles that are not meant to stay. Besides, what better way to savor the flavour of life than formidable challenges? It is after all the taste of challenges that gives every life a unique flavour.
In addition, it is essential to comprehend the importance of setting resolutions. Their entire purpose is to set goals for personal enhancement. Resolutions are individual and exclusive. Moreover, you must acknowledge, they are yours. They weren’t made for a third person’s satisfaction. Therefore, it is imperative to not compare your goals with others, or achieve your own goals for someone else. Bear in mind, everyone has unique calibre, only they are capable of utilizing. We learn at different paces, we react in situations differently because our differences set us apart. It is because of our differences, we are able to make progress in our passage to self-attainment.
Finally, a few simple yet effective New Year resolutions you can abide by include sharpening an old skill, or learning a new one, developing new friendships or working on a relationship with an old nemesis. However, the most crucial of all is self-love. Learn to love yourself and maintain a healthy relationship with your mental and physical state. 2020 has had an unfairly ruthless impact on the mental health of many as Charlotte discusses in another article. Wishfully, I hope that 2021 will bring joy to those who thought they lost their laugh, comfort to those who lost their beloved, hope to those who lost their path and happiness to all, despite our losses and gains.
On the 31st of December, 2020, at 11:59 pm, have a head filled with resolutions and commitments, a heart overflowing with affection and enthusiasm, and as we surround ourselves with positivity, jovial screams around the world, when we wish all, a Happy New Year! As we close our 365 paged book, we open a new one filled with blank pages and possibilities. 2020 has provided us with an abundance of time to reflect on our actions. The New Year resolutions we decide for 2021, symbolize the hope we hold for the future, and the way we choose to grasp it.
